DEEP INSIGHT
Helsinki 2005

From Russia to Japan...

Suiciderock: Who came up with the name „Deep Insight“ and does it have a special meaning?
Johannes: Basically my sister came up with this name. We started with the band and than we tryed to figure out some name. My sister just called me and told me this „Deep Insight“ thing and it just sounded good to me. I don’t know if there is a special meaning but basically it is superficial. People should see into other peoples heart. People tend to judge people for what they seem to be from the outsideview.

Suiciderock: Your new album „Red Lights, White Lines“ was released this year. What was the recording process like?

Jukka: It was fun. We were in the studio for 28 days and it was pretty much fun. We recorded night to day. We did the vocals during the night and guitars and drums during the day. It was really cool.

Suiciderock: Where do you get the inspiration for your lyrics from? Do you take it out of every day life like most of the bands do or are there some other components which play a big role?

Jukka: Yes, basically we take them out of everyday life and other experiences.

Suiciderock: In October and November you`ve been touring with „The Rasmus“ all over Europe. What was it like for you?

Jukka: Yep, it was pretty cool.
Johannes: It was our best tour ever. The people have been fantastic at every show and we were really surprised that they took us so well.
Jukka: The Rasmus have good fans.

Suiciderock: You travelled around a lot since the band was found. I guess you`ve been to 23 countries during this time. Is there any country that impressed you the most? If yes, why?

Johannes: It’s nice to play in Japan
Suiciderock: Why?
Jukka: I guess because it is so exciting. I don’t know if it is any better when you get used to it. I like playing in Eastern Germany and the Baltic Countries. They are more relaxed. When you come to Scandinavia the people are more stiff. They are afraid to participate in the show.
Johannes: I like to play in some parts of Germany best. I personally like pretty much Berlin and Munich. People are really into the music there. Also Portugal is a nice place to play.

Suiciderock: How do you pass the time when you are not on stage?

Johannes: Basically we rehearse a lot. Now we are doing the next album and so we are practising the new stuff. But everybody has his own freetime...
Jukka: ...in Miami on the beach...
Johannes: ...I just came from Miami.
Jukka: I’ve been sick. Usually I’m sick after a tour.
Suiciderock: Great holiday.
Jukka: Yeah!

Suiciderock: Is there anything you hate when beeing on tour?

Jukka: Waiting.
Johannes: It’s when you are too early somewhere and you wait for the things to happen. I just don’t have anything to do expect eating or something.
Jukka: Besides the interviews and the show touring is 22 hours of waiting. You just wait and sleep and than you go to the interviews and you do the show. All the time before a show starts you get nervous, after the show you have an hour were you feel really good and than it starts again.

Suiciderock: Everything went quite fast in your career. How does it feel to have such a great success within such a short period of time?

Jukka: I wouldn’t say that it was that fast. We played in garages for 4 years. From Russia to Japan. I think we made 5 tours all over Europe and mostly Germany in a van and we were just playing.
Johannes: There is a lot of background work. People always think they just came up from somewhere but there is lots of work behind.
Jukka: It`s the same with „The Rasmus“. Before they became big in Germany they did 10 years of work. So many people in Germany probably thought that this is a new band.
Johannes: It was the same with HIM.

Suiciderock: You’re still a young band but is there any advice you would give to a young band?

Johannes: Just do it. You always have a lot of work. Never be lazy! There are many bands, especially from Finland who act like: Let’s stay at home and wait till something happens.
Jukka: They wait for someone to come and make them big.
Johannes: You just have to go on, this tour and play those shows.

Suiciderock: What’s your opinion about the Helldone Festival? Is it a fresh idea?

Johannes: It’s a good thing.
Jukka: It`s nice because people come to see HIM anyway. Lots of people come from all around the world. Now they have to do something else than just to come here for four days and one show. Now they have three days of shows.

Suiciderock: How do you normaly celebrate New Years Eve?

Johannes: Usually we spend it with our families in Lappland. We have never been... A couple of times we also have been together with Jukka.
Jukka: Many times but not lately. We spent this time together in the skiing centers. But nowaday we just spend it with friends, taking it easy.

Suiciderock: Are you going to make any New Year`s resolutions for example stop smoking?

Johannes: Yeah, that’s one.
Suiciderock: Is it possible you will get it to stop or more likely not?
Johannes: I think I won’t do that ‘cause I was already away from smoking. But than I came back to Finland and saw this ( pointing on a package of cigarettes). They were laying on a table at home and I was like oh cigarettes...

Suiciderock: Your future plans regarding Deep Insight?

Johannes: We will tour with the new album and we will have a tour in spring in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. We will do our own home tour. We will get the dates in 1-2 months. But it seems like it will be in April. Let’s see what happens.
Jukka: We go to the studio in January in Sweden. That`s it.

Suiciderock: Thank you very much.

Jukka & Johannes: Thank you.
