DIABLO
...really crushing Metal!
Suiciderock:
In your earlier days the band was called „Diablo Brothers". What
was the reason why you changed the name into „Diablo"?
Marko: Well it was just about, that the name „Diablo Brothers" was just for a two-man project, actually me and Rainer. But than we got the chance to find some other players and so we just wanted to drop the name „brothers" away, because there have been already four band-mates. That's why. Suiciderock: What made you start playing music? Marko: Well, I`ve heard heavy metal when I was 10 years old and the music sounded so cool, that I wanted to play guitar then. I asked my father and my mother to buy me a guitar, but they didn`t want to do it in a minute. But when I was 13 they gave me the money to buy a guitar and since that I`m playing. So it`s almost 20 years. Now what about Heikki? Heikki: I`ve always been into music pretty much. Actually I considered to play guitar first, but in the age 13 I`ve got to play some drums in school. The first time I hit them, I was in love. So I have been on that road until now and than I came accross these guys and here we are, but I don`t know what the fuck happened until now. Marko: What about you Aadolf? Aadolf: What's the question? When I started to play? Marko: And why? Aadolf: I wanted to be in heavy metal and I started to play guitar when I was about 15 years old. But somehow when I got into this band, I started to play bass... Heikki: And here we are... Suiciderock: On your latest album you have a lot of guest musicians. Did you plan to have them all or did it happen by incident? Marko: Yeah we planned to have guest musicians. We actually have had them in the last three albums. Actually I don`t know the reason, but we wanted that our friends play some parts, to sing some parts, actually on this newest album. Suiciderock: About your songs: Who is responsible for the songwriting and the music? Marko: It's Rainer, who isn`t here at the moment. Suiciderock: Is the album a entire concept or have all the tracks a different story? Marko: It's not the same story in every song, but this is really a question for Rainer, who is responsible for the lyrics. Aadolf: I think there is hate everywhere. Marko: Yeah usually there is. But there isn`t any sort of concept in the whole album. There is a concept in a few songs, but it`s more like about finnish life and all that stupid things. So I really can't explain it to people from outside of Finland. Suiciderock: Your music was defined as modern trash metal. Would you agree with that? Heikki: I don't think it's not trash. Trash is more like the same beats all over the way. We are not like that. There are lots of elements from trash metal, but it's more kind of Pantera, Machine Head, Maiden and so on. Marko: I would say that it`s just modern metal, not trash metal, not really. Heikki: The roots are actually in trash metal, but kind of evolved in a way. Suiciderock: The contract with Poko Records ended after the release of „Mimic 47". Do you already know which label will release your following albums? Marko: No, we didn't sign any deal yet. We just wanted to have free hands. When we have new stuff, then you can decide for a record-deal and all that stuff. Yeah we're composing, not really hard, but... Anyway we want to make our next album. Suiciderock: Since a couple of years Metal Music is more popular than ever. What would you say makes this trend? Marko: I don't know how it is outside of Finland, but in Finland I guess it's a trend nowadays. So lot`s of metal bands are now on the front. We have been doing this stuff on the days when metal went so popular. Suiciderock: What do you think is more popular in Finland: Metal or Rock? Marko: In Finland now? Heikki: Metal! Marko: Why? No no... Aadolf: Actually it doesn`t matter. We`re just fine with it. Suiciderock: Everyone of you has a normal job besides playing in „Diablo". What are you doing for living? Marko (laughs): Do we have to answer? Suiciderock: Yes. Marko: I'm sitting in an office. Really nice work. Suiciderock: So are you wearing a suit? Marko: Yes, every now and than. Heikki: Actually I`m only and only indeed playing music. I didn`t work more than something like 8 days per month exept play. Marko: And that's why you are always broke. Heikki: Actually nowadays it's really fine with my fianancial situation, but I'm happy and I keep myself happy. Aadolf: I work hard for the money. Marko: And there is lots of it. Suiciderock: Lots of work or money? Marko: Money. Suiciderock: In your free time would you say you are more the way you are on stage or a bit calmer? Marko: What do you mean? Suiciderock: Are you more wild, go out and party or do you prefer to sit in a restaurant and drink a wine? Marko: It depends on the company. Every now and than of course. Aadolf: Today we party. Marko: Definately. Suiciderock: We are at the Rock Cock Festival today. Is there any band you would recommend besides your own? If yes, why? Marko: You start. Heikki: Pantera. It's too late for them now, which sucks. Marko: I guess you ment the bands who are playing here or? Suiciderock: Yes, here. Marko: I would say that... Diablo: Stam1na. They are great. Aadolf: And Popeda in the other stage. And tomorrow if you will be here Tarot, Mokoma and Impalazed Natharene. Tomorrow quite good bands, yeah. Suiciderock: And if you would have a own festival, which line-up would you choose for example? You would be headlining and who would start? Marko: There are too many bands. Okay, we would be headlining and I would invite Testament to the festival. Heikki: Still pantera? Marko: But that's impossible. Heikki: Yeah but we are talking about a dream festival. Marko: Okay than I would take Death. Heikki: Death and Pantera? Would be cool. We have to die before we can see those. Marko: I`ve seen both of those bands. Heikki: Yeah fuck you. Suiciderock: Your future plans? Marko: I guess it's about trying to make new songs and whenever they will come out, trashing! Suiciderock: Last words for suiciderock.com Aadolf: I really want to introduce you our driver.... Say Rock'n Roll! Marko: Yeah, but actually we didn't got many chances to go out of Finland. Actually we played one show in Estonia, but that`s another story. But we are not telling that. Heikki: Actually we are coming to Germany. Marko: Yeah that's true. Come to see our life show in Berlin! I guess it will be the 23rd September. Than you will see really crushing metal! Photos of that interview can be found in the gallery!
