A deeper look into the mirror

We catched up with Ville and Mice from Flinch at Klubi in Tampere. While trying to do this interview another band tryed to make their soundcheck. But luckily our voices were strong enough to get the interview done for you. Here is the result:

Suiciderock: Okay first of all can you tell us a bit about your band, because on your official homepage everything is written in Finnish.
Mice:
Ok, what should I say? We are five talented young men playing in the band. We found the band three years ago. It`s our third summer together as a band. We were just friends, who started to play together. We have known each other btw. played together since we were in school & now we are here.
Ville (smiles): Yes.

Suiciderock: All your songs are in Finnish. Did you ever consider to sing in English and why did you choose to write them only in Finnish?
Mice:
Actually we started to write songs in English and we made our first demo in English, but Ville likes to sing in Finnish.
Ville: It sounded kind of horrible and so it turned that I sing in Finnish.

Suiciderock: Ok but do you wanna go on tour outside of Finland, because it is very difficult for a Finnish-singing-band to have success outside of Finland?
Mice:
Yeah, but I think it’s possible today to have success outside of Finland with Finnish lyrics.
Suiciderock: And you wanna go on tour outside of Finland?
Mice:
One day. Maybe it takes us ten years to get there but we want to make it even if we aren`t language talented, but we are music talented.

Suiciderock: Who is responsible for the lyrics? I guess Ville is?
Mice:
Ville.
Suiciderock: What inspires you for your lyrics?
Mice:
I think he gets his inspiration from finnish songwriters from the 80`s like Popeda and others like Metallica.

Suiciderock: You just released your second album „Kuvastin“. Can you tell us a bit about the recordings? How long did it take till you recorded it?
Mice:
Äh it was a kind of new expirience for us. We never have been so long in studio as now. It took about 4 month to get the album ready. It`s quite a short time to get an album ready. We made our own style.

Suiciderock: What do you prefer playing live or in the studio? What is more work?
Mice:
We are prefering to play live. That`s easier for us. But I hope we can play our record live.
Suiciderock: You will play in Porvoo tomorrow. How do you prepare for a show or are you simply giving it a go?
Mice:
We decided today, just to give it a go. We are practising a lot usually but tomorrow we will just give it a go because we are okay with the songs. Tomorrow we will just play our gig in Porvoo and get away.

Suiciderock: Are you nervous before going on stage?
Mice:
No, not so much anymore. I think we are a bit nervous before we are having a gig even today but it`s getting easier and easier and we are getting used to it.

Suiciderock: Let`s get back to your album. Your album title is „Kuvastin“, translated it means „Mirror“. Who had the idea for the name?
Mice:
We have a song which have this word in the lyrics and so we took this name as the title. And I think „Kuvastin“ is a beautiful word in Finnish so why not?
Suiciderock: Yeah, why not?

Suiciderock: Okay last question. Your future plans for the band?
Mice:
Hm stay together as long as we can stay together. I hope we will have many years in front of us together as a band.
