“A stedy up and
down”
Suiciderock: How would you describe the typical sound
of the H-Blockx?
Tim: That`s a
difficult question. I think the sound of the H-Blockx is simply how the band
sounds and plays together, how the band works together since 15 years now. I
think that there is this red thread through the songs, though the line-up went
through some changes it is still us. I can`t say what the typical H-Blockx sound
is like. I think it`s easier for the people who buy our records or come to our
shows. A difficult question...
Suiciderock: A difficult question right at the
beginning but it will be easier now. Where does the ideas for your lyrics come
from?
Tim: I only can answer for
Henning. The lyrics come from the influence of his life, from things he see`s,
he notices. We aren`t a political band, we aren`t Do-gooder or preachers. The
lyrics are more about situations out of our invironment, our life and our
story.
Suiciderock: You`re already done some shows. What
have they been like for you?
Tim: Great so far! We played two Open Airs so far. Today the
weather is best. Such a weather like this simply belongs to such a performance.
We`ve played some festivals in the rain. It wasn`t that nice. It will be better
now.
Suiciderock: You´re been touring in America with
"Biohazard" if I remember right...
Tim: Exactly. One time with the rocktour and the other one
with "Biohazard".
Suiciderock: What was it like for you to play
there?
Tim: It was very very great
experience. We`ve been on tour for ½ year. It`s interesting to see how bands
work over there. It`s totally different. It was a big experience.
Suiciderock: So you would like to tour in the US
again?
Tim: Yeah, you have to be
clear that it is connected with a lot of work and it takes a lot of time. You
have to invest at least ½ year to get food on the ground. For us the problem
came up that our record company went bankrupt and we stopped everything. But if
the chance comes again maybe we would try it once more.
Suiciderock: Can you describe what a normal
H-Blockx-tourday looks like?
Tim: Sitting on the bus, eating something and than on stage.
We spent two hours in a traffic jam today. We have to drive about 1000 - 2000 km
every weekend. So at the moment it is really just like mentioned
above.
Suiciderock: What about all the German Bands like
"Juli", "Silbermond", "Wir sind Helden" and on? Do you like
them?
Tim: They are quite good. I
also know them pretty well. There are always certain phases. Trends are always
existing. There was the trend to German Hip Hop music, American Alternative
bands or to German Rock & Pop music. It`s changing all the time. If such a
trend cames up the record companies starts searching for a band who fit in that
trend. They start to cast bands who play that kind of music, this kind of
prototyp: Band and singer like the "Guano Apes".
Suiciderock: It`s all about politic on the festival
today. What`s your commend on the current situation in
Germany?
Tim: I think people
shouldn`t make everything that bad. It`s not that worse. You have to do
something, I mean everybody should do something. Everybody should stop
complaining. We all have to change something, not only the politicans and
shareholders. Than it will be better.
Suiciderock: The name of your band is the Irish Slang
word for High security-prison cells. How comes?
Tim: It was a stupid accident. We were sitting in the English
class, 16 years ago and we were asked to play at a schoolparty. We didn`t have a
name for the band this time as the band was existing only since three weeks. So
we had a look at our English book and thought that the word would sound cool. We
added a "x" and so it was done. In the meantime we are existing since 16 years
now. Noone thought this could be possible.
Suiciderock: How would you describe the last 15 years
with the H-Blockx?
Tim: It happened
so much. I even realise everything. It was always good and bad. We did a record,
everything was fine and a while later everything was shit again. A stedy up and
down. We haven`t done anythingelse than that since we left school.
Suiciderock: What about the new record? You`ve been
in Danmark recently to work on the new material. Can you reveal something about
the new stuff? Will it be similar to "No Excuses"?
Tim: I don`t think so. We haven`t worked with a producer
since years. We`ve produced four records by ourselves. Finaly we got a producer,
Andreas Herbig, we liked and he had time to produce. We just came back from the
studio where we produced our demo material. It`s a lot of fun for us. Every
record was a bit different. We`ve always tried out different things. That won`t
change this time.
Suiciderock: When can your fans expect the new
work?
Tim: Hopefully in January next
year.
Suiciderock: And your future
plans?
Tim: We`ll record the album,
release it and than we will be on the road again. I hope we will see us again in
Nürnberg.
Suiciderock: Hopefully. That`s it.
Thanks.
Tim: Thank you.
