“Dynamic riffs, catchy rhythms &
powerful vocals”
Suiciderock: Who had the idea to found
the band?
TIFFANY: This is sort of a
long story, but I will do my best to make it short… Corey and I met in the
studio of a mutual friend in 2002. I was working on a solo project at the time
and Corey was looking for a singer to write lyrics to his material. Though our
styles were a bit different from one another, our influences were very similar
and that’s what connected us initially. We started writing together in the
autumn of 2002 and set out as a duo. We had a hard time hiring musicians for our
live band and decided that we may be better to just have a full band and forget
about being a duo. Steve joined up with us in the summer of 2004 and Jeff joined
us in early 2005 to complete the current IS lineup (Tiffany – Vocals / Corey –
Guitar / Steve – Bass / Jeff - Drums).
Suiciderock: How would you define your
style?
TIFFANY: The best way to
describe us is “All original, female fronted, hard rock music. Dynamic riffs,
catchy rhythms, and powerful vocals”.
Suiciderock: Was there something special
that made you choose to become a musician?
TIFFANY: I grew up believing “all the world is a stage” and
wanted to do anything and everything associated with the arts. I love to perform
in front of an audience. So really, I never “chose” to be a musician, I just
grew up that way.
COREY: I was 9 years
old and my brother introduced me to my first Led Zeppelin record, it was all
over from there.
STEVE: I grew up around
musicians and was always wanting to be like them.
JEFF: I have always been interested in drums. I started
playing when I was 6 years old. Writing original music is very enjoyable and
self gratifying.
Suiciderock: What inspires you to write
your songs?
TIFFANY: Life is an
inspiration to me. I like to write about the good AND the bad. The world today
is not sugar-coated like so many people would like us to believe in the
entertainment industry. I write about things that have happened to me or to
people I know, things that can happen to anybody. I like to write lyrics that
people can identify with, not create a fantastical world of fiction. Sometimes
the bad things in life can turn into something beautiful and that inspires
me.
COREY: Life in general.
Every once in a while you see something that makes you say, “What the hell are
these people thinking?!”.
STEVE: Depression and
kick-ass melodies.
JEFF: Killing people.
Suiciderock: Any Idols? Is there any
musician you would like to cooperate with?
TIFFANY: Gosh! I have so many idols! I could ramble on for hours
about them. Mama Cass, Neil Sedaka, Dio, Black Sabbath, Europe/Joey Tempest,
HIM… to name a few, but I am into so many styles of music, it’s hard to give you
an idea with just the few I named. If I had to choose one to collaborate with, I
would have to say Joey Tempest. I have been a Europe/JT fan since I was very
young and I would love to work with him on something. I have also recently
become addicted to Rammstein and I think it would be fun to do something with
them.
COREY: I am a big fan
of the playing styles of Slash and Linde of HIM.
STEVE: Elliott Smith, Flea
JEFF: The Incredible Hulk is my idol. Musically my idols are
Dave Lombardo (Slayer), Charlie Benante (Anthrax), Mike Bordin (Faith No More).
Suiciderock: Can you tell us a bit more
about the band itself and about you as a person? Is there any difference between
you as a musician and you in your private life?
TIFFANY: The band itself, well it just IS. Me as a person, I just
AM. I am pretty much the same musically and privately. I don’t like to generate
false images.
COREY: We get along as
friends would, collaborate, and generally we all like the end result.
STEVE: The band is 4 people who came together through different
walks of life, became close friends, and used our diverse influences to create
our own sound.
JEFF: I think the band
is a group of professionals in their style and writing. My personal influences I
heavy metal, but I still like to rock.
Suiciderock: What is your biggest dream
regarding your career as a musician?
TIFFANY: To be successful in what I love to do most. A big tour
or record deal would be great. I would love to quit my day job, but whatever
happens, I will still have fun. I would also like to live in Europe someday.
Maybe Germany?
COREY: To be able to go
on the road and to have the time I want to put in to writing music.
STEVE: To tour
JEFF: Staying original
with drum beats and styles and sounds.
Suiciderock: Your personal wishes for
the future?
TIFFANY: Again, to be
successful doing something that I love to do. Living in Europe would be nice
too.
COREY: I would like to
see this band on the road and in the studio.
STEVE: On tour and making great music.
JEFF: I hope people can enjoy the music we or I write and can
connect with it.
