MOCKSHOT
"Singer wanted" Suiciderock: To start up with the interview can you tell us something about your band?
Saku: At the moment we are a four piece band. Unfortunately we don't have a singer by now. The name of the band is Mockshot, we play Rock`n Roll with an alternative twist, our live shows are very energetic and we play with a punk attidute although the punk stuff we did before in our earlier days is different. Erno: Currently we are checking out new singers. A friend of us is now singing for Mockshot. Maybe he becomes our next singer. Saku: Yeah, hopefully. Suiciderock: But besides that do you organise something like kind of a casting to make the search a bit easier? Saku: No, not like a casting. We are looking for a singer and it has been a big problem for us at least so far. But we are not organising a casting. We try to find some candidates and hopefully we will soon find a new singer who fits into our band profile. Suiciderock: What exactly does he need to fit into your profile? Erno: Of course, he has to be a great singer. Saku: Yeah, of course. This is an important aspect. He really needs to be a great singer. Erno: He has to be good looking. Saku: He has to be handsome of course. Erno: And he needs to fit into our group as a person. Saku: We are a bunch of idiots. He should be able to stand that and he should learn to cope and be okay with our drinking habbits. Suiciderock: How long does Mockshot exist now? Saku: Well, Mockshot has been around since 2005. I think it was in January 2005 when we founded the band. We decided to make the whole band thing more serious at this time. We came to the conclusion that we should really try to do something with the band. We actually started to play in 2002, but it wasn`t so serious back than. Erno: It was just about drinking and girls. *laughs* Suiciderock: So that is the reason you`ve became a musician to pick up all the girls? Erno: Yeah, yeah. That was my intention. *laughs* Saku: Yeah, but it was in 2005 when the whole thing became a face. We wanted to achieve something to get somewhere with this band. Suiciderock: Was there a special happening that made you decide to become a musician? Saku: I was about 8 years old when we had this music lessons in school. Everybody had to sing and stuff like that. Someday someone got drums and I had the chance to try them. So I started banging this drums. I found out that this is something I wanna do at a certain level. That`s how it went for me. Suiciderock: And about the influences? Is there a special band you want or you need to mention? Erno: Everybody in the band has his own different taste when it comes to music. Saku: Bands that everybody like and that had influences in our music are Queens of the Stone Age, than of course old garbage rock bands like Flaming Sideburns and The Hellacopters. They had really big influences. Erno: Yeah, especially the life shows of the Flaming Sideburns have impressed us. They are a very good life band. Saku: I guess those are the most important to mention. There are so much more favourites where we take our influences from. Suiciderock: Would you agree that people can find the routes of this bands in your own material? Saku & Erno: Yes. Saku: I would say at least when you listen to the new stuff. It's more alternative than the older material. Our first single that came out in 2005 was pure garbage rock. Suiciderock: Let`s talk about the roles in your band? Who has the pleasure to be responsible for the songwriting? Is it a group project? Saku: It depends. At the end each song is a group effort, but the ideas for the lyrics for the songs come from our guitar players Matti and Tuukka and from me. That`s when we are talking about the basic ideas. We bring them to the rehearsal place to introduce the material to the rest of the band and than we start to work on the stuff together. Erno: Usually Mikko is responsible for the lyrics. Suiciderock: So what inspires you? Saku: I don`t know. I like to tell different tales. Once I got an idea in my head I start to work on it. I think the inspiration comes from my own experiences in life. It`s like I'm concentrating on a certain thing so I can tell something about it. Suiciderock: What do you want people to walk away with after attending your shows or listening to your songs? Erno: Basically they should have fun. They should like the show. When you come to see us you should have a good time. We are just trying to do a good and powerful show. Saku: I hope that people make their own experiences through our songs and of course, we are doing a energetic life show. Erno: You know sometimes you see a band performing and they simply don`t move on stage. Saku: Their music sounds great on the records, but when you happen to see them life they are boring. Suiciderock: Yeah, they look like they are bored. Saku: Yeah, yeah. It seems that they are not enjoying what they do. That`s no problem for us, because when we do a show it`s 100% energy. Suiciderock: What was your best and worse life show ever? Saku: The best life show was when we played at Semifinal in Helsinki. It is a really cool place, it's small and it was totally crowded. Everything went great for us. The audience was fantastic. Erno: I can`t recall the worse show. Saku: Yes it's hard to say. We actually haven't had such a really bad show, but it might have been at Klubi here in Tampere. We were supposed to perform when it was closed already. It was kind of hillarious and we were quite angry, but as far as I remember there were like 20 people left at least. When we came from the backstage to climb on stage we saw them and they were like questioning „oh you still gonna play?". We were supposed to play as second act like 10pm and at the end we started to play around 3am. That was a pretty horrible situation. However, we still managed to do a good gig for the 20 people. Suiciderock: What does the future hold for Mockshot? Erno: I hope to find a new singer. Saku: Yap, that's the first and most important thing. I hope that we can go into the studio. We've planned to record five songs. Hopefully they turn out to be good. Than we can start to promote the new material and hopefully this will also help us to find a new singer. Suiciderock: Can you already tell something about the new material? Saku: If you have heard our stuff from myspace, it's slightly different. At least in our eyes it is better than the old stuff. Yeah, it`s bit different compared to the old stuff. It`s mixed with alternative twist. The songs are more complex. We are quite confident with the new stuff. Questions out of the Questionbox: Saku: What is your most hated song ever? I have to think about that for a while. I think the song I really hated was the last big summer hit here in Finland and the song was called „Mikä Kesä". Suiciderock: What is it about? Saku: It was a big summer hit last year. Erno: In the song it says that the summer has started and you should party and all this stuff. They are still playing that song even now in winter. Ok this is my question: If you had 24 hours left to live how would you spend them? Maybe I take all my friends come here and have a couple of drinks. Suiciderock: Okay thank you very much guys. Erno & Saku: Thanks.
