"We are trying to expand our teretory"
Suiciderock: For everyone who is not familar with your band. Would you tell us a bit more about you guys?
The Muff: The band was formed in 2000. After that we had a couple of line-up changes and we put out two records. Suiciderock: You are still quite young. When did you realise to become a musician? The Muff: I think Kiss was a big influence. When I was four years old, I got this Kiss vynil and there was this big poster in it. That kind of inspired me to start fiddling around with music. Suiciderock: Where do your artist names come from? Who had the idea for the band name? Why „Naked"? Do you like to run around naked? The Muff: They are made of our names. They are not completely made up. I have been called Muffe for ages. Than I had to translate it into English. So here we are. Suiciderock: Your first album „This one goes to Eleven" was released in 2004. Your second one „Let's get naked and start a revolution" was released this year. What changed if you compare this two records? The Muff: When we made the first album we didn`t have a clue what we were doing. So we went to the studio and there we recorded the songs we had come up with. They were really astonished and nobody liked the first album and guess why? Because it was not that good. But when the second album came out we were really satisfied with it and now we are bringing out the third album and it will again be different than the first two albums. Suiciderock: You recorded „Let's get naked" in three different countries. Can you tell us a bit about the recording progress and why did you decide to record in three countries? The Muff: Three different countries and seven different places. I`d like to say it was because we wanted to, but it was a question of the budget. Suiciderock: But wasn`t it more expensive to travel around? The Muff: Not really. I mean we got a good deal in Sweden with the guy, who mixed the album and he worked with a lot of big names. He liked us so much. We had to go to London to record a gospel choir for the song Hallelujah at the same time we recorded some other stuff over there and than we did the majority here in Finland. Suiciderock: Why did you choose the song „High on blue" to become the first single? The Muff: Because it was so good. I like it. It`s one of my favourites. It's actually the only song that was written without any instruments. The melody just came and the lyrics are about the night before. It happened when I woke up with a huge hangover. (laughs) Suiciderock: I read in an interview that you describe your music as broadway rock or cock rock. Can you explain this definitions? The Muff: The cock rock thing has something to do with the first album. Than we changed that because the band changed. Also our music style changed in a way. The whole rock cock thing came from our producer. He wanted to know what kind of music we are doing and I started to explain to him what our music is like. And I said it's kind of like Broadway rock. Lot`s of lights, big hair, fun and all that things. It's about that you should not take yourself too seriously. Suiciderock: You shot a video for the song „Revolution". Stefan Lindfors was the director. What's the story behind the clip? I remember you running around in a straitjacket. The Muff: Actually Stefan Lindfors, the director of the video came up with the idea. We had this idea for the best music video ever made but we couldn't make this video. I won't tell you the story behind it now as someone else could steel it (laughs). But we will make it some day. For the current video: we were just gathering all the ideas and then the concept came along. It's about a guy who's feeling the the revolution thing is happening in his head. We just shot it, we didn't know what it will look like before. But it was fun and than it was played on MTV quite frequently. That was cool. Suiciderock: Where did you shoot the clip? The Muff: It was shot in London. Suiciderock: Earlier this month you played in Italy. What was it like for you and how did the Italian audience raeact? The Muff: We will play in Germany in September. We will play at the Popcom. We are planning to go back to Italy maybe this year. After that maybe the Baltic Staates will follow. We are trying to expand our teretory. Suiciderock: Can you describe your band mates and yourself in short words? The Muff: Mr. Tikka is kind of the dad. Especially whe we are on tour, it`s funny, because they are very crazy. Otto is kind of excited about all the new stuff. Zack is a cool chap. He is actually a complete dig. But he is actually also my best friend. He is a big big part of Naked. Suiciderock: How would the perfect festival line-up look like for you, if you could choose the bands? What name would you give the festival than? The Muff: The Beatles would be playing and than the Rolling Stones., Queen, Thin Lizzy, The Blues Brothers, we would be playing. That would be quite cool. Also James Brown would be part of it. I would name it „The best festival in the Universe". Suiciderock: If you wouldn`t be a musician what would you do instead? The Muff: That's a really hard question. I don`t see myself as a fireman, policeman or something like that. I can`t imagine to work at a nine to five job. Maybe I would be a crappy producer or a crappy manager or something simillar. Maybe I would be a formula 1 driver. Because I love formula 1. Suiciderock: Your future plans for Naked? Maybe some more European shows? The Muff: I will quit the band and become a formula 1 driver. We hope to make a terrific third record that will help us to break through finaly. So that we can get a bigger tourbus. Next time when we make an interview you will get your own sofa. We hope that we can play abroad in different countries. Suiciderock: Last words for suiciderock.com? The Muff: I used to say that you shouldn't eat yellow snow because it's bad. You should go to our Myspace and try out our songs and play them to your friends. Suiciderock: Ok, that's it. Thank you very much. The Muff: Thank you very much. Photos of that interview and their performance can be found in the gallery!
