PERFECT SYMMETRY
Burgrock 2006

“Speed Rock hits your ears”

Suiciderock: Could you tell us and the people out there a little bit about how the band came together?
Daniel: With this line up we play together since the band was found in 2004. Since that time we go to the rehearsal place 3 times a week together and we come along fine. It`s incredible much fun.

Suiciderock: Where did you take the idea for your bandname from?
Jan: Actually it was the idea of our drummer. He is a big fan of Fates Warning. They had this album and the title was Perfect Symmetry. We thought that the name would fit quite good as we also fit together very good.

Suiciderock: Did you know that there is already a band in the Staates (in New York) with the name „Perfect Symmetry"? What can you tell us about the matter?
Jan: No, we didn`t know about that when we decided to name our band „Perfect Symmetry".
Daniel: Of course, now we know.
Suiciderock: So you didn`t get in trouble because of this?
Jan & Daniel: No, no.

Suiciderock: Would you change your name if it would cause any difficulties?
Daniel: That's hard to answer right now. We haven`t made up our mind concerning this matter as we don't have any problems with it.

Suiciderock: What is it like for you to play at the Burgrock today?
Jan: It`s okay. It is very exciting for us to play together with some great bands today.
Daniel: The atmosphare is overwhelming. We have been here as visitors of the festival and now we stand up on stage ourselves. We are very excited about it.

Suiciderock: Is there any band you would like to see today?
Jan: I definately would like to see Amorphis.
Daniel: Me, too.
Jan: I don`t want to see Negative.

Suiciderock: How did you get prepared for the festival today?
Jan: Rehearsing rehearsing rehearsing. That's what we did the last two / three weeks every day.

Suiciderock: What is your opinion about the other bands, who could also qualify therselfs for the festival?
Jan: Well, we know all of them. I think it`s quite good that you have lots of different music styles together for example Tiere im Keller play real punk or if you take Exposed to Noise, who play Nu Metal or Emo Core. I think it`s cool.
Daniel: Every band covers another line in music style. I share Jan's opinion that it is good to have some different styles together.
Jan: Exactly.

Suiciderock: How would you describe your own music style?
Daniel: On the homepage you can read that it is Progressive Metal. So it must be true.
Jan: Many magazines describe it as Speed Metal or something like that. The reason for that is that our music is much more faster when it's played live than on the album. There is this little Speed part in it.

Suiciderock: Who's responsible for the lyrics and where do you take your inspiration from?
Jan: Everybody has the opportunity to bring his ideas. Normally I translate them because I study English and so it`s quite easy if I do it.
Suiciderock: So you first write them in German and than you translate them into English?
Jan: Our drummer mostly writes the lyrics in German and I translate them into English later on. Normally the singer and me write the lyrics. Well, what inspires us? Everything that happens around me. It really depends a lot on the situation I`m in at this moment. When there is something that weights heavily upon my mind it's like a therapy for me to write it down.

Suiciderock: How important is success for you?
Daniel: That's a good question. It would be cool if we could live from our music.
Jan: We are very ambitious.

Suiciderock: Are you a fan of Finland because of your wristband?
Jan: No, my dad is from Finland.
Suiciderock: Are you able to speak Finnish?
Jan: Unfortunately not. I didn`t grow up bilingual. I speak a little bit Swedish.

Suiciderock: What about your future plans guys? Any further gigs planned?
Jan: One thing we want to achieve is a label contract. At the moment it is difficult to go on tour because of my studies. I go to Taiwan for one year and after that we will hit the studio to record a cd.
Daniel: Yeah, that would be cool.

Suiciderock: Some closing words for this interview and the readers of Suiciderock.com?
Daniel: Thank you very much that you came to our shows. Greetings to all of you.
